I promise, I've not been sitting idle with my camera collecting dust.  I want to share 3 favorites from a recent shoot with the adorable Curry family.

I love this series of shots so much.  These photos captured a precious father, son & dog moment. They are not the prettiest photos from the evening's shoot, but I love them the most!  They are funny, sweet and exactly what parents of babies deal with on a daily basis.

Baby gets a hold of something {in this case a dog treat} ...

Baby tries shoving the item into his mouth as parent quickly snatches it away before eating/choking occurs ...

Parent soothes {angry} baby for scaring the crap out of him and for stealing away the tasty treat!

...Top Ten of 2011 Winners... https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2012/1/top-ten-of-2011-winners The Best of 2011 Contest was a huge success.
I couldn't have picked more perfect winners if I had chosen them myself. All of the photos chosen show what I hope are consistant parts of my style and vision as a photographer. Thanks to everyone who voted for the photos and congrats to the Top 10 winners.
 ...Best of 2011 #10 - Sweet little Torie...
Newborns are so hard to photograph.  I'll be honest, I don't really enjoy the photographing part of having newborns stop by. I'd rather the baby just come to my house for me to snuggle. Miss Torie's surprise smile made me forget all about the usual struggles of shooting teeny tinys.
...Best of 2011 #9 - Dea & her Mommy...
Part of what I LOVE about doing this job is the relationships I form with clients. This photo is a great example of what happens when you take extra time to let the kids warm up and get comfortable with you. I remember this moment perfectly. Miss Dea was telling her mom that she got me to eat the "yucky Laffy Taffy." Pretending to take a bite of gross, sticky candy allowed for some great smiles later in the photo shoot, when I mentioned it.
...Best of 2011 #8 - Jeff & Lindsey's Family...
For so many reasons I loved this shoot. It was a beautiful evening so the light was perfect. Lindsey picked out adorable outfits that coordinated just enough, but not too much. We shot in a lovely spot with lots of texture. Long grass, old bricks and yes, even a few ticks! Also this is a great example of a pose that is not super posy. Composition is not my strong suit -  I'd rather just guide the family a little as we go. I let the family interact naturally for the most part, and give a bit of direction here and there to achieve the look I want.
...Best of 2011 #7 - Brad & Sarah's Family...
Another super fun family to work with. This was one of those "freeze" moments. The shoot was full of laughing and goofing around, but this quick shot makes it seem like they were flawless little figurines the whole time. Kids aren't wax statues that pose and smile when directly. Some photos like this are great, but in my opinion the best shoots end with a mix of perfectly posed & what of the family is actually like!
...Best of 2011 #6 - Nolan...
 Must haves for an excellent 3 year portrait of a happy little boy. Great grin. Beautiful light. Bucket hat.  With a typical kid avoiding eye contact with the camera. No props or distracting backdrops, just Nolan.
...Best of 2011 #5 - Carver & Atley...
Almost all of these top 10 photos have one thing in common...amazing light!  Word to the wise...schedule your shoot in the evening. The golden light about an hour before dusk will make for the best photos. This photo is a great example.
...Best of 2011 #4 - Hattie...
I love this photo of hambone Hattie. Full of smiles, giggles and silliness. I easily could have deleted this photo because it's not super sharp. My focal point is on her hand not on her eyes like usual. So although I see blurry eyes, I saved this photo because it captured a moment. A moment worth keeping forever!
...Best of 2011 #3 - Carlos, Joe & Luca...
This is my absolute favorite photo from 2011. To me, it's visual poetry. Every time I see it, it touches me on a different level. The one consistent thing I see every time I look at it is LOVE!
"At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet."
...Best of 2011 #2 - Lara & Kris...
 Nowadays wedding photos are as unique as the couple getting married. Which makes wedding photography all about the relationship between the photographer and the bride & groom...or bride & bride in this case. I love the simplicity of this photo, and I knew this would exactly what Kris & Lara would love too.
...Best of 2011 #1- Justin, Jessie, Atley & Carver...
I'm so glad this was chosen as the Best of 2011 for couple of reasons. First of all, this is what a photo shoot with young children is all about... flexibility & fun. Shoots with kids never, seriously NEVER, go as planned so the best way to make it enjoyable is to just roll with it. I promise I will get shots you love, if you promise to trust me & my process. It may seem chaotic or messy, but there really is a method to my madness.
The second reason I love this photo is because it was taken right before one of these little boys got very sick. This family had quite an ordeal right before Christmas. Since then Jessie told me while Atley was struggling, she would look at this photo and pray to have that healthy, little boy back. This photo gave Jessie hope when she was scared for her son. I'm so happy for these guys that Atley is doing better & I consider myself lucky to have been able to give Jessie & her sweet family the gift of this moment.
Happy New Year.  I hope to see you in front of my camera in 2012!

Kris & Lara | 11.25.11 | New York Wedding Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/12/kris-lara-112511-new-york-wedding
...The Wedding of the Century...
Before I start, I need to clarify to my past brides that I did not coin this event 'The Wedding of the Century'...the bride did! Yes, I play along, but I would never classify one person's wedding as better or more important than anyone else's. ;)
 Although, Kris thought this was going to be The Wedding of the Century, her wedding day started off just like any other. The normal pre-wedding preparations were in full swing when I arrived at the Barn on The Pond. Yep just like every wedding...the dude in flannel pajama pants and black leather loafers hauling trash cans past the Streamline, and the Broadway performer limbering up in the kitchen as he scrambles eggs.
All joking aside, the weddings I've had the opportunity to shoot have evoked very familiar feelings.  No matter how different the couples, the guests, the decor - the sentimental vibe is usually pretty similar. Most people are full of excitement, optimism and joy.
Besides the aforementioned shenanigans, Kris and Lara's wedding started off almost identical to every other wedding...
There was a beautiful dress.
There were pretty shoes and sparkly rings.
There were curling irons, bobby pins and hair spray.
There were flowers, a guestbook (of sorts) and people gawking at a tree trimmer.
Kris and Lara's wedding had candles, cocktails, and bottle caps.
 There were last minute hugs, dog supervised rehearsals and big baby yawns.

 As it neared showtime, there was nervous laughing, button sewing and necklace clasping.

There were photos of the gorgeous couple, their fabulous families, and the Barn before guests arrive.
{Photographer's Favorite #1}
I cannot put my finger on what it is about this one, but I love it!  I am not sure if it's the focus on the  rafters or the interesting outdoor lights or if it's the happy, natural and slightly blurred faces of the brides.

 Then it was time.
Time for the state of New York to allow these two lovely women the right to marry one another.
Right about 4pm, this wedding started to feel different.  Kris and Lara's ceremony was by far the most heartfelt and touching I've ever experienced.
{Photographer's Favorite #2}
I snapped this one as they walked quickly down the aisle. I know it's blurry, but it's still a favorite. I love how Kris and Lara are both beaming as the wedding is about to start. I don't see nerves or anxiety...just love! (...and a slow shutter speed)
The wedding was intimate - only 40 guest. Everyone was either family or close friends of the couple.
Every word uttered came directly from someone's heart. Every song sounded like it was written for that particular moment.

And then came the vows. They were so beautiful. So sincere. So perfect.
Literally everyone in the Barn was crying - including me...
and the caterers!
It was awesome to hear Carlos, speaking on behalf of the State of New York, introduce Kris and Lara as a married couple.
After the kiss, the party began! There were drinks, food and music.
Lots of singing, dancing, and even some cartwheels.
Gifts were given, notes were written and stories were shared.

 The Black Eyed Peas, a polka and The Humpty Dance kept guests on the dance floor.
Did I mention singing? Yeah, there was a whole lot of singing.
There was hand holding, group hugging and head resting.
{Photographer's Favorite #3}
I love this candid family photo of Carlos, Joe and sweet baby Luca.
{Photographer's Favorite #4}
I love this photo of Kris and Lara so much. I hope it reminds the brides that even though the wedding is over, the guests have left, and the music has stopped - love remains. Strong and steady love remains.
Thank you, Kris and Lara for allowing me to be part of your beautiful barn wedding. I wish you happiness wherever you go...and my hope is that one day people will be able to marry whomever they love right in their own backyard....without needing to transport 100 Ball jars to New York.

Carson | Wisconsin Child & Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/11/carson-wisconsin-child-family-1 I'm so far behind with my blog. So in order to catch up, I'm gonna be short and sweet with my posts.
Meet cute little Carson and his family. We met on a beautiful Sunday evening early this fall, and explored The Farm inside & out! It was a lot of fun. Have I mentioned before that I need to get myself a red-headed child...yeah, I thought I had! :)

I love the vibrant colors in this photo, but I especially love the stickiness around his mouth.

The Busch Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/busch-family-wisconsin-family-1 I've said this before, and I'm sure I'll say it again, I LOVE when my clients really understand my style of shooting when they book a session. It makes everything easier, and honestly the photos are better.  If you know ahead of time, that I'm perfectly OK with your kids making goofy faces or (softly) tackling each other, you are going to have a much better experience.
This is my good friend, Laura, and her sweet family.  Laura has been a huge supporter of Julie Stephenson Photography from Day 1& she totally gets "it!" Which works out great because she has the cutest kids outside of The Compound, and love to hang out with them.

This is Sophia's future husband, Jackson.  Yes, I know, her name will be Sophia Rose Busch.

This is Annabelle.  She is Owen's future wife.  She is quite the little poser for the camera. I personally think Laura & Brian should stop letting her watch Showgirls everyday, but that's up to them. Their parenting style is much different than mine. :)
During one of her poses, she told me she had to get her "toes just right"...

This is sweet little Eleanor. Unfortunately, Trevor and I got a hold of some permanent birth control before we could give birth to a life partner for her.

Look at this perfectly, imperfect family photo. They look happy & natural...even without Annie's eye on the camera, it is a great photo of a great family.

I LOVE this squeeze-y photo of Jack & Annie! They looks so sweet...well 'cause they are.

The Wanezek Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/wanezek-family-wisconsin-family-1
Here are a few photos from a recent shoot with an adorable family. These guys could only meet on a chilly, dewy morning because they had a birthday party for little Miss Pink Boots that evening! They were all troopers...with soaking wet feet and freezing cold hands. The light in the mid-morning is kind of a pain, but when the family is this darn cute the photos still look great!
Happy Birthday to Miss Alyvia.  She was dressed in her party clothes, and ready to celebrate!

Angie & Ben's Growing Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/angie-bens-growing-family-wisconsin
Anytime there are 3 little ones running around a shoot - it gets crazy, but the hugs, kisses and smiles always seem to out weighed the tears, pouts and ice cream cone bribes! And yes, as you can see, Ben & Angie are about to have another beautiful child.  Laid back, Angie wanted a few casual maternity photos and some fall shots with the entire family. She is the perfect kind of mom for this type of shoot and this many kids..she is so easy going & relaxed.
{Photographer's Favorite}
Angie looks so amazing.  I have a hard time believing this is baby #4, I'm not sure how she does it!

Could they have more adorable children?
 I wish Angie & Ben and their growing family the best always...

Tara & Bobby: Part 1 | October 8, 2011 | Mineral Point Wisconsin DIY Wedding Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/tara-bobbypart-1-october-8-2011-mineral-1
I have nothing, but love for this entire post. Tara & Bobby are the kindest & cutest couple I have ever had the opportunity to know.
Seriously! The bride called ME to tell me she'd be 10 mins late...who does that? These guys do.
The Schmitz newlyweds also have a special place in my heart because they hired me (with a real down payment) before I had any real wedding photography experience under my belt.  They didn't know me or have some kind of low price agenda. They found the right person for their style and trusted my vision and talent.
Their wedding was perfect. They had great weather, their closest friends & family, and well thought out details that made the day uniquely theirs.
Including a wedding photographer who smelled like Vick's Vapor Rub!

Tara was in tears at the first glimpse of Bobby waiting for her.
Both were a bit nervous, but the immediately comfort that came once they were together was striking to me.  It had nothing to do with him or her it was all about THEM.
{Photographer's Favorite #1}
 I love this shot of her veil blowing in the breeze. The wind made the almost hot October day a bit more challenging for Tara and the rest of the girls with freshly styled hair.
Tara & Bobby's wedding party were a blast.  Super easy going and really fun.
A quick toasted to the couple made for some great shots.
Including the...
{Photographer's Favorites #2}
One of the groomsmen suggested Bobby & Tara give the corny, twisted arm champagne sip a go. Of course, because this is the best couple ever, they gave it a shot without hesitation...
I love the expressions in this series of photos.

All of the wedding party photos were taken at the beautiful Cothren House, right here in good ol' Mineral Point.  Lisa and Don graciously let us use the entire grounds, and were even willing to nab the outdoor cat if he got in the way.
The next photos don't really need any explanation. I think one word sums them all up...
The ceremony was short and sweet. Literally! Paster Mary Anne gave her now famous candy sermon.

{Photographer's Favorite #3}
I adore this photo.  It makes it seem like the only people in the church were the couple, their love, and their faith.

Tara had the most gorgeous rings. I took these shots at Bobby's family farm, and I love how you can see the reflection of the buildings in his ring.

Tara & Bobby: Part 2 | October 8, 2011 | Mineral Point Wisconsin DIY Wedding Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/tara-bobby-part-2-october-8-2011-1
For full disclosure, I didn't really know Tara & Bobby, but I've known members of his family for years.  As Trevor and I looked for kind, responsible, good families in our community to serve as a guide for us-Bobby's parents, Michelle and Brett, and his aunt & uncle, Chris & Dale, have always been considered role models.  They are people who had fun together, were involved in school and community, but always...ALWAYS put their family first.
 Keeping in that tradition of family.  The couple decided to have their reception on his family's farm right outside of Mineral Point.  It was an amazing event! The entire family pitched in, at the direction of the Master of Creativity-Michelle, and made the shed/garage into a flawless venue, perfect for the fun-loving crowd.
As the bride & groom arrived, The Steve Brown band played by the outdoor bar.  Guested mingled enjoying the amazing autumn weather and cocktails served in personalized glasses.

The inside of the shed was transformed into a rustic reception hall. Pumpkins, candles and vintage pieces made you completely forget the normal functionality of the building.

White lights, window frames and antique doors gave the huge building a rich, romantic & cozy feel.
The cake area was scattered with vintage linens, china, and crates.  The mums and corn stalks provided a lovely, local backdrop to the variety of delicious cupcakes.  Which by the way, the Chocolate Explosion cupcakes were the best wedding treat I've ever eaten.
My favorite part of the evening was the dancing. The Schmitzs, along with the rest of the wedding party, started the dance with The Dropkick Murphy's - I'm Shipping Up To Boston.....a song I love!
It was a fun moment, and it totally got the dance portion of the event started with a bang.

As the night winded down for me, the dancing continued in full Regan fashion. I'm so glad I could capture this moment of Michelle with some of her sisters.

Congrats to Tara & Bobby Schmitz.
 Thank you for believing in me. I'm so grateful you allowed me to capture your absolutely perfect day.

Josie | Wisconsin Child Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/josie-wisconsin-child-photographer-1  Sweet Josie is about to turn 2, and man is she cute!
We had a great time walking in the Oak savanna near her home. This girly-girl was all about it. I've decided she's a great mix of her parents.  She loves the camera like her actress mother, and is a curious little naturalist like her father.
I know one thing for sure, she's got them wrapped around her adorable little finger!
 {Photographer's Favorite's}
This is Josie's excited dance.  She gets a huge grin on her faces and waves her arms in the air! It is adorable, and she does it on demand...love it!
Happy Birthday Josie!

The Crist Family...yes, another one! | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/crist-familyyes-another-one-wisconsin-1 Certain families I work with remind me of my own family. Not my own children, but my siblings and I as children.  This group is one of those.  The kids were sweet, adorable and totally goofy!  Laughing like crazy, making inappropriate noises, and jabbing elbows into each others ribs. These guys took me right back to my youth.  The nice thing about this family is how "go with the flow" the parents are.  They totally get it.  Kids are kids, and they are going to behave like kids...especially when the photographer is tossing out some fake fart noises herself!

{Photographer's Favorite}
I took these photos on my very favorite road, in front of my very favorite barn doors.
This photo looks to me like a perfect moment of calm, unity and love that is giggly group has for each other. ♥ this shot!

The Leary Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/10/leary-family-wisconsin-family-1 Photographing families with small children is always an adventure. It's a fun, unpredictable escapade that typically ends up differently than imagined. For me, a fun photo session involves letting go of the need to control the chaos, and just embrace the experience!  I mention this right on my website in the about me section... "welcome to my photography website. if you are looking for formal photos with lots of props, you are at the wrong website. my approach is casual. life is unpredictable and so are facial expressions. the best pictures aren't planned; they just happen. sometimes you may not even know i snapped a shot. the beauty of real life is found in those unexpected moments. i love to document those moments. will the people be centered, and the smiles perfect? probably not, but that is what lifestyle photography is all about."
Brendan & Camryn were a perfect example of how adorably erratic small children are at photo shoots or church or the grocery store or...well anywhere!  These cool parents, Sean & Jill, were troopers. They didn't get worked up or impatient. They embraced the madness and laughed through it all. And looked what resulted-
A couple of perfectly imperfect family photos and...
sweet, baby girls smiles and adorable, 2 year old boy antics.

{Photographer's Favorite}
This might be my favorite moment of any photo shoot ever. (As a little side note, Sean & Jill are good friends of Trevor & myself, and they are hilarious...both of them.) I asked Brendan to go stand my his dad, which he did without hesitation, but he wouldn't face me.  He stood there smiling & laughing with his back to me, knowing just how funny it was. He's a little comedian in the making.

For your listening pleasure... https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/for-your-listening-pleasure-1
It's official, I have a new favorite band...Point Five!  In an effort to head off the nasty text message my brother Jed is going to send me, let me rephrase this statement. There is another band I love as much as Crimson Head.
A few months ago, I spent some time listening to Point Five in a little open air session and was hooked. They are the nicest people, they sound great and, unlike Crimson Head, I know my ear drums are not going to explode if I stand too close to the speaker...although I know I'd receive top notch treatment in such an event. Two of the band members are doctors at an area clinic.
Over the weekend Point Five had their CD release party.  The Midway Bar was packed Saturday night with fans ready to hear the set and grab the CD. I got mine!  It looks and sounds great.
Take a look for yourself...

I think everyone should grab this CD. It's so easy to listen to. Sometimes when I listen to one band or singers all at once, by the third or fourth track, I'm tired of listening.  I feel like I need a break.  Probably my Pandora ADD rearing it's ugly head, but I have to say, I don't have the same reaction to Point Five's sound. The disc has been in my computer since Sunday and I've played it a bunch of times.
I love Track 6 - Carpenter.  It reminds me of Trevor's late grandfather who built our home.  Track 11 is a cool version of Cyndi Lauper's - Time After Time, which really features Point Five's unique sound. My personal favorite, Track 8 - Witchia. Not sure what it is about it, but I love it.

I have to say my kids LOVED reading my name when I popped the disc out! Thanks to Point Five, my kids think I'm a "super cool, rock star mom."  I wonder how long that'll last?  I'd bet I'm "annoying, makes me brush my teeth & do my homework mom" by Friday!

Isaac | Class of 2012 | Dodgeville High School Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/isaac-class-of-2012-dodgeville-high-1 Before doing photography, I worked at the Dodgeville Elementary School for 5 years. Isaac was one of the first kids I met. Of course, he was a 4th grader without a cool car or guitar, but the important stuff remains the same...he was a sweetheart then and still is.
I can't believe he just started his senior year!  How has he grown up so much, yet I remain the adorable 25 year old I was back then?! Hmmm...
 {Photographer's Favorite}
Isaac drives this great car from the '80s. I love how into it he is!
He showed up for our shoot a little late and all sweaty because he had to stop and wash the car.
He was more worried about how cool the car looked than how smelly or soaked he was during the shoot.
I kid, he smelled just fine...after he changed his soaking wet shirt.

Greg & Monika | 9.10.11 | Wisconsin Wedding Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/greg-monika-91011-wisconsin-wedding-1 Last weekend, I was lucky enough to shoot with Dani Stephenson of Dani Stephenson Photography. This time we traveled to beautiful Sheboygan, located on the shore of Lake Michigan. What a great town! It has beautiful scenery, small town charm and big city class.
Greg and Monika have the same exact kind of vibe going for them. They are gorgeous, they are the sweetest couple I've ever worked with, and their wedding had great style.  I had such a great time shooting this wedding and I had a hard time really understanding why until I looked at my images. In one word I can tell you what I loved most about this gorgeous day...
 {the quality created by the combination of the different elements}
Monika and Greg's wedding had the most amazing elements, and in my opinion it set this wedding apart. Take a look and I think you will see what I mean.
Look at this dress. It was so lovely. Simple with amazing details.

Monika looked perfect. The vintage style birdcage veil with the blush colored flower was so romantic.
Her bridesmaids looked great in the vibrate eggplant-colored dresses.
{Photographer's Favorite #1}
I love this photo of Greg & Monika during the church service. Often ceremony photos are awkward with serious looking couples just trying to make it through the service without fainting, tripping or saying the wrong name. :)  Not these two, this photo shows them looking so calm and comfortable, kneeling next to one another...no nerves, just love.

Monika's family from Poland brought some of their rich culture all the way to Wisconsin for the big day. As the bride and groom exited the church, they were showered with coins.  The coins represented good luck & prosperity for the new couple.
Not only were the photographers caught off guard, with our cameras down, but the surprise shower felt more like a hailstorm to the unsuspecting bride and groom!  It was one of those funny and sweet moments that make every couples wedding their own.  Monika and Greg collected the coins as a reminder of the well wishes, and a start to an abundant life.
Greg and Monika's wedding story had so many great elements that could soon be forgotten. Which is part of what I love most about second shooting. As a second shooter, I can take a step or two back and snap photos that might typically be missed or deemed not necessary.
These are the kinds of photos I love. Photos that make the story of each couple individual wedding complete. I hope these images will remind them of all the loveliness that when put all together was their wedding day.  Which by the way - is a great wedding date.  I love 9.10.11!

A lot of times, I don't know why I'm drawn to certain images, but I just am.  This is one of those photos. I can't put my finger on why. Might be his ring, the way she is holding her dress or the grass & the trees, not sure what exactly, but I know I love it.

wildflowers and bird berry vines.

Wonderful sunlight glittering through the late summer leaves.

Clear skies and private moments.

Ivory roses,  driftwood,
and autumn colored bouquets.
The Sheboygan Yacht Club was the perfect place for a beautiful reception. Lots of light and views from the windows behind the head table accompanied...
with dark wood and boating inspired decor surrounding the dance floor.
My favorite detail was this alternative to the traditional guest book. The couple had stones for each guest to leave a personal message on...in either English or Polish.  I love this!

As the daylight faded to twilight the couple walked along the pier for some sunset photos.  Dani directed them for her shoots, and again, I just snapped away at the details.

The photos were wrapped up outside with one last beautiful element...sparklers. Mr. & Mrs. Casper both look so happy running through their sparkling salute.

Thanks to Dani Stephenson and Greg & Monika for allowing me to be a part of the special day.

  I hope, just like their wedding, their lives are filled with beautiful elements and amazing details.
 May your marriage overflow with texture!

Ainsley | Wisconsin Commercial Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/ainsley-wisconsin-commercial-1 Meet Ainsley...she is a local actress who would like to branch out into modeling and commercial work.
We had a great evening at the lovely Cothern House for our outdoor shoot.  Thanks to the Hay family for letting us use the beautiful grounds.
The resident cat could not get enough of Ainsley...if you have catnip to sell...I think this is your girl.

I'm not sure what it is about these 3 little photos, but I love them. The light looks perfect.
 I love the texture in the background...
...but this is my absolute favorite! The purpley-blue top she's wearing really makes her eye pop.

Good Luck Ainsley!

Nolan | Wisconsin Child Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/nolan-wisconsin-child-photographer-1 When I started getting into photographing other people's children Nolan, only 1 then, was one of my little models.
Two years later, he's cute as ever and still a blast to take photos of.
Rolie Polie Nolie is a still a giant ham!

When Nolan is excited he gets this huge grin/roar thing going on! It's too cute.

These photos are almost all straight from my camera.  All but two, have no editing or tweaking whatsoever. If you want great light for photos-evenings this time of year are perfect.

Best (stick your tongue out at me) light ever!

Adler | Wisconsin Child Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/i-love-photographing-kids-1 I love photographing kids. It's my favorite...by far! Give me a 2 to 10 year old and I can shoot all day.
 Typically, babies make me sweat.  They don't normally respond to my goofball smile-getting antics like older kids do, but there was Adler.  He was perfect.  Smiling and laughing at me and his gorgeous parents.  This shoot has everything I love about photographing babies...perfect baby soft skin, big sparkling eyes and spider leg eyelashes...oh and baby man boobs!

{Photographer's Favorite}
I love this photo.  His sweet smile with his power tie onesie.
Someday when he's hosting the evening news, I think we'll all know where he got his start.

The Thompson Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/thompson-family-wisconsin-family-1 Hattie & the rest of the lovely Thompson family come to the beach on the most glorious evening ever!
Just look at this sunset...

Look at their adorable girl in front of the gorgeous sky. Do you see her eyelashes?!
Seriously, one beautiful sight after another during this shoot.

Sweet Hattie was so expressive and fun to photograph.  She was being a typically 1 year old...silly and dramatic!

Halle & Treyton | Badger Children's Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/9/halle-treyton-badger-childrens-1 These adorable little Badger fans stopped by for a quick shoot.
This post is a big shout out from Treyton & Halle...GO BUCKY!

Too much for a 50mm to handle...that's a lot of love.

The Odgers Family | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/8/odgers-family-wisconsin-family-1 Happy 1st birthday to stylish Miss Isla. She looked so sweet in her blue dress, it matched her beautiful eyes. You know me, I'm a sucker for blue-eyed babies!

{Photographer's Favorite}
Most of you know that 1 year old photo shoots are challenging, and as parents you are probably going to be disappointed with me as your photographer, if you wanted your baby sitting up straight in the chair and smiling perfectly.
If your willing to go with the flow, and meet the child where they are, well then you're my kind of client. Yes, Isla used the chair, but just as a 1 year old should, she used it for a quick game peek-a-boo. I love these photos of the happy birthday girl.

The Gruetzmacher Girls | Wisconsin Childrens Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/8/gruetzmacher-girls-wisconsin-kids-1 Photographing children is such a fun job, but I'm telling you...it's a ton of work!  Cristina and her beautiful babies are a perfect example of how much work goes into getting a beautiful photo. We had to hurry up to get photos when Rose was finally happy, only to have little Elizabeth's smile turn to tears. We dressed and undressed two hot & sticky babies! Dad & Grandma worked to get diapers changed, bottles ready,  spit up wiped away and giggles from both babies and mom. We all left sweaty, bug-biten and ready for a nap, but not once did I question whether it was going to be worth it.
The minute I saw the photos, all the heat and humidity vanished because I got the chills.  Cristina and these two gorgeous babies will forever have this moment in time, and I was able to provide it to them. That makes all the hard work that goes into the process totally worth it.
I typically just pick one favorite, but honestly, I love so many equally.

I love pretty much any photo with Cristina in it.  I love her expressive face as she looks adoringly, smiles proudly and laughs genuinely at her little Gruetzmacher girls.

Nathan | Class of 2012 | Oregon High School Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/8/nathan-class-of-2012-oregon-high-school-1 Meet my latest senior, Nathan.  This was such a fun senior shoot...super low key and easy going.  We were done super quick, and he was on to better things.
{Photographer's Favorite}
Nathan has beautiful eyes and they are really highlighted by the great evening light in the next three photos. We shot on a cloudy night so we had to search for great light.
I love shooting city kids at the pond! We shot this same pose with his brother last year. I remember loving the reflection of the trees then and nothing has changed.
 Enjoy your senior year Nathan!

Celebrations | Wisconsin Family Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/8/celebrations-wisconsin-family-1 Whether it's a retirement, a birthday, a trip of a lifetime or just the fact that everyone is together - there is no better gift than photos. What a great way to capture the special moments each family has.

 I realize large group photography is not my specialty. I typically do very casual shoots without much in the way of poses, so I'm always a little hesitant when asked to do a large group. But I can't say  no because I'm a total sucker for a big happy family coming together to celebrate.  So although the composition may not be quite perfect, I know I can capture the unique and amazing personalities that when joined together make these beautiful individuals - family.

Grandma's Retiring...
  Everyone is together and dressed up for a celebration dinner - why not spend a little time capturing the moment.  Kate has such a beautiful & fun family.  I hope she gets to enjoy spending lots of time with these adorable grandkids during her retirement.

I love this one of Grandpa Bub with little Max.  So sweet...naked Barbie & all!
Jake is leaving for New Zealand...
Marcia (my son Owen's favorite teacher) wanted some updated photos of her gorgeous grown kids before Jake left the continent.  This photogenic group was by far the easiest photo shoot I've ever done. So natural in front of the camera and totally easy going. I had a great time!

 {Photographer's Favorite}
We took most of the photos deep in the woods at the family's lovely cabin so I didn't get a lot of the great evening light, but when we got back to the house the light was golden and gorgeous.

Everyone is planning to be in Wiota...
This big group was going to be together so they decided an updated photo was in order.  These guys remind me a lot of my own family.  Lots of crazy cousins and adorable little kids running around. Their grandparents live on the most gorgeous property I've ever seen.  I'm sure they have a million amazing memories messing around with one another here.

The look on the faces in this photo are priceless! Family fun.

Mom's Birthday...
 Renee, Brenda and Randy decided the best gift for their mother's birthday would be a family photo shoot.  I met these guys at their parent's beautiful home overlooking the bluffs of the Wisconsin River.
{Photographer's Favorite}
This is the best birthday gift a mother could ask for...a great photo of her adult children laughing together. I love this shot!

Thanks to all of these great groups for allowing me to capture their special family celebrations.

Ella | Wisconsin Child Photographer https://juliestephensonphotography.com/blog/2011/7/ella-wisconsin-child-photographer-1 This photo shoot came about because Ella's Grandma Whalen bought this lovely vintage pillowcase dress at an auction to support the American Cancer Society.  It looked absolutely perfect for this photo shoot at their family farm.
Miss Ella slept in a little the morning of her shoot so she needed a little warming up...

 but once she got comfortable with me hanging out with her she hammed it right up!

She has her mother's side of the family's intense blue eyes, and her Grandma Whalen's chubby arms...if you know her you know this is a total joke because her Grandma Whalen is probably the youngest looking and most gorgeous grandma ever!

I love, love, love the inquisite look on her face, and the bright blue sky in the background.
